The discovery of this miraculous plant was first monumented in ancient Greek circa 300 A.C, where the King of Macedonia, Alexander the Great found the weakened war horses returned home with strong and shiny coat after grazing in Sea Buckthorn forest. Thus the name Hippophaë Rhamnoides, which means “shiny horse” was given. Legend has it that the sea buckthorn leaves were one of the preferred foods of the mythical flying horse, Pegasus. It was later brought to Eastern Europe and China and widely grown in the mountainous areas. In the 13th centuries, Seaberry becomes the source of strength to the armies during the Genghis Khan empires.
